The Agony of Deparent
- John Kessel, USA Volleyball Director of Education, Grassroots, Disabled & Beach Volleyball

As I watch parents and coaches agonizing over defeat, and in the rapture of victory, I think two key things are missing:

1. The parents need help
in enjoying all matches, losses as well as victories.

2. We are good at the
lessons of winning, but we simply do not teach enough how to gain/learn from losing.

HRVC travels to the 2008 East Coast Championships Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
May 24-26, 2008

Captain Judy Bozinoski is putting the final details on our journey to Pittsburgh. HRVC will be traveling with 9 teams from U13 to the U17. This event is one of the largest volley ball tournaments in the USA and provides great competition for all levels. It is a fun weekend for athletes, coaches and parents. Judy will be sending out an information package soon with all the info you will require for the tournament, travel & accommodations.

In order to prepare for the tournament we have been asked to provide 4 scorekeepers from each team. Judy and Barb O’Connor have been kind enough to host scorekeeping clinic which will be held on Wednesday April 30 at Trinity from 7 to 9. Each team MUST have 4 individuals in attendance to receive the training. If you have not already done so, please email a list of names from your team that will be attending the clinic. tasmin@cogeco.ca

14U Black battle at the Bugarski Cup
With a second place finished in their pool, the U14 Black team battled it out with the Windsor Bandits and won 25-20 and 26-24. Next up was the Aurora Storm Monsoon. The girls played hard and won the first game 25-16. The second game they suffered a lost 9-25. Then they battled back in the tiebreaker to win 15-11. What a match! Next on the list was Forest City. The girls seemed to be running out of gas - lost both games 19-25 and 12-25. This put them into the Bronze medal game against the Waterloo Tigers. The girls came out flying in the first game and won 25-23 and the second game they lost 15-25. The third game they came so close to winning a Bronze medal but unfortunately lost in the third to a very close game 11-15. The girls played with heart and coach Andrew & Jen were very proud of their tournament results.
13U Blue
New team, new uniforms and lots of fun at their first tournament. Coach Patrick and Linda were very proud of their girls as they improved immensely throughout the day.

U15 Black finishes their OVA season with great accomplishments
March 29-20 - U15 Tier # 1 Ontario Championships, Hurricanes U15 Black finished 11th.This is a great accomplishment considering this team was made up of a group of athletes that had not played together before. Coach John and Terri did a great job bringing together the team. Their results showed as they qualified for Tier # 1 Provincials in their first season. They also participated in the U16 Tier # 4 Ontario Championships April 12-13.The U15’s fought hard and brought home a Bronze medal. This team has a lot of talent and we hope to see great things from them at the East Coast Nationals.
A U16 Hurricane Storms through Tier 2
Our U16 Black team made a powerful appearance at Saturday’s Bugarski Cup tournament. The team entered their first Tier 2 tournament seeded 9th but blew through the competition in a very strong pool, finishing on top and undefeated. With another win in the first medal round against the Barrie Elites, they earned a trip up to Tier 1 for the Provincials. After losing to MAC in the semi-finals – a team they had defeated in the morning rounds – the coaches inspired the girls to come out and out-last and out-hit the number 3 seed to win the bronze medal. Every player delivered over the long day – players and coaches should be proud of how they stayed positive and played together - and hard - to medal. It was only a brief stay in Tier 2 – now it’s off to Tier 1! Well done team – and good luck in the Provincials!
Hurricanes U16 Blue competes in Buffalo
January 19th, and 20th the U16 Blue competed in the Niagara Frontier Volleyball Tournament. Coach Elsa and Victor were very proud of their team. It was an amazing tournament in that the girls have seen such growth since the beginning of the season. The girls finished the tournament with a well deserved first place at the Silver bracket. They played 10 matches in two days. In pool play the girls finished second and Sunday morning they faced a 1st place team from another pool; losing the match 15-13 in the 3rd set. This tight game moved them to the Silver bracket. They played physically and mentally strong and with their great offence, they won the next three matches. The girls received a shinny medal as a reward for their hard work. Well done ladies!
Tournament at Western Tech
The U15 Blue Hurricanes gave it their best shot and played with a lot of heart at their first tournament at Western Tech in Etobicoke.

This team brings together a lot of new girls to club volleyball this year. They worked hard and saw immense improvement throughout the day. The tournament was a great bonding experience for the girls and fun was had by parents and players alike. Good work Hurricanes!
