With their first official tournament coming up quickly on December 5th, the Hurricanes had the opportunity to practice their skills in a "friendly" November 28th in Cambridge. Thanks to the coaches for getting us in there, not only was it great fun, but it gave the team a chance to get the feel for tournament play. And get a feel for it they did - finishing in 2nd place for the day! Well done girls. There were some tremendous serves, spikes and volleys throughout, and lots of learning for the next tournament.
The girls also got to spend some more time together over the course of the tournament, getting to know one another; and the parents used the occasion to spend some time with a great group of girls and parents - thereby honing our potluck lunch skills, too!
The Provincial Cup tournament held Dec. 5th in Ingersoll showed the Hurricanes 13U Blues just how far they have come as a team. Playing together for their first season, the girls put up a good showing against older, more experienced teams in the 14U division, finishing 2nd in the morning round robin Pool Play. Having played against the Burlington Blaze and the Cambridge Hawks we then faced the Hurricane's 13U Black team. The competition ramped up, but it was close! With the Black team coming out ahead, we moved into final consolation play, meeting the 14U Brant Tornados. It was a close one, but the Tornados squeaked by.
Once again, there was lots learned on the court that the team will take to the next tournament in January. Before that though they will continue to practice and work hard, as they have all year. The team made a decision to play up a year for the more competitive style of play and showed that they can hold their own. Well done Hurricanes 13U Blue!!
