On January 30th, the girls competed locally at Notre Dame H.S. in the Challenge Cup. Being the competitors that they are, the team had chosen to compete at the 14U level and faced some "tall" competition. Our 13U Blue team definitely held their own. In fact, an opposing coach made a point of commenting on exactly that!
After the first round of play the 13U Blue team missed advancing by only one point. An excellent efforts girls! Very exciting games to watch - the scores were 17-25 and 21-25 against the Niagara Rapids Blue, and 25-22 and 21-25 against the Rapids Black. From there the girls kept the competition on their toes with very close games , forcing a third game in the final match. Each team took one game, both with a score of 25-18, but the West Elgin Warriors squeaked by in the final game 15-11.
Stats from the team's exhibition games January 25th included two games where ALL the Hurricanes serves delivered; overall 91% of their serves that evening were over the net and in bounds; and there were 27 aces. At the Challenge Cup, we saw more great serves and the girls showed how hard they worked on other skills following the warm-up exhibition games earlier in the week. Go Hurricanes!
