13U Black storms onto the scene with a GOLD!

On January 24, 2009, our Halton Hurricanes 13U Black girls volleyball team traveled to frosty Collingwood for their first competitive tournament of the OVA season.  The girls certainly made it worth the early morning trek through blizzard conditions, as they managed to go undefeated in match play to capture the Gold medal.

In pool play, the Hurricanes Black started off the day with a win against a formidable opponent, our very own 13U Blue team.  The girls picked up momentum as the day progressed, winning matches against Collingwood Cubs (25-16, 25-21) and then against Peel Select 96 by scores of  25-17& 25-8.  The attitude of "no ball will hit the floor" became more prominent with each match.

In the playoff rounds, the girls played some fantastic defensive volleyball.  In the semi-finals, the match against North Bay provided some of the most challenging volleyball of the day.  Awesome serving and great attacks kept our opponents on their toes and the Hurricanes Black were once again victorious, winning both sets 25-19 & 25-14.  Keeping the ball alive seemed to be the motto of the day.

The gold medal match against Barrie Elite Black proved to be quite a battle.  The girls had a slow start to the first set, and although they rallied back from a 15 point deficit, they still lost it by a score of 23-25.  The second and third sets were a different story as the girls shook off the first set and focused on winning. Hurricanes Black handily won 25-12 & 15-8, to bring home the gold.

Next stop Columbus!
