The criteria that coaches will be looking for in both Black and Blue try-outs are an athlete's skill level, work ethic and competitive attitude. If you're not sure what team to try out for, we suggest you put your skills to the test and start by trying out for the Black team.See you on the court!

Welcome to HRVC's 17U try-outs!

Try-out format: 17U Black

Open try-outs for the Black team will be held at Trinity C.S.:

Try-out fee is $30.

Athletes will be guaranteed a minimum of 2 try-outs.
The final try-out is by invitation only.
The names of selected athletes will be posted on the website
All athletes not selected are encouraged to try out for the 17U Blue team. (There will be no additional try-out fee.)

Information about our 17U season

Both teams will practice 2 times a week.


We will compete in 4 OVA 17U tournaments and the Ontario Championship (plus 2-3 additional tournaments):
     OVA 17U Tournaments: Dec. 12    Jan. 23    Feb. 13    Mar. 6
     Ontario Championship:   April 16-18

The team will choose to compete in either a U.S. tournament or the Canadian National open tournament (May 13-16).

The annual fees this season will be in the range of $800-$950. This will cover uniforms, gym rentals, OVA player and tournament fee. In addition, each athlete will be asked to purchase $175 in raffle tickets, with proceeds from the raffle ticket sales going towards participation in a major tournament. This is the only major fund-raising campaign for the club and athletes can recoup the cost by selling their raffle tickets in their community. There may be additional fund-raising required to attend the Nationals.

The HRVC Recruitment Advisor will be available to work with athletes whose goal is to play at the post-secondary level.

Learning to Compete: The 17U teams will be involved with higher intensity training to develop our athletes' physical and mental fitness levels and volleyball skills and tactics. Fitness training will develop strength and aerobic power. The teams will have more emphasis on competitive experiences and decision making skills.
