The goal for the day - to medal and earn a spot in the Premier division. The tournament held in London had several tough teams with the same goal and it made for a long and demanding day.
Right out of the gate, our 18U team played strong and won their pool, beating the Toronto Aces and Brock Volleyball Club. In their first match in the medal round, the team played Fusion, winning 2 straight games to move into the semi-finals.
Our team faced MAC in the semis and both teams played tough and determined volleyball. MAC won the first set 25-22 but our 18U girls came out with renewed energy and battled to a 25-23 win in the second set. The third set was a nail-biter, with our girls getting an early lead but then allowing MAC to close the gap. Our team held on and in an exciting finish won 16-14.
The day started at 9am and the girls played their final match at 7pm. In the final, they met the Peel Selects who had come through an easier semi-final match and were better rested. HRVC's 18U team lost the first set 20-25 but re-grouped and stayed focused to win the second set 26-24. The gold was in sight - and the team played as a tight squad to win the final set 15-11.
The goal - and the gold - was achieved. Now it's off to the Premier division Feb 27th. Good luck team!
