The criteria that coaches will be looking for in both Black and Blue try-outs are an athlete's skill level, work ethic and competitive attitude. If you're not sure what team to try out for, we suggest you put your skills to the test and start by trying out for the Black team. See you on the court!

Try-out format: 18U Black

Open try-outs for the Black team will be held at Trinity C.S.:

Athletes will be guaranteed a minimum of 2 try-outs.

All athletes not selected are encouraged to try out for the 18U Blue team. (There will be no additional try-out fee.)

Both teams will practice twice a week.


We will compete in 4 OVA 18U tournaments and the Ontario Championship (plus 2-3 additional tournaments):
     OVA 18U Tournaments: Dec. 5    Jan. 16    Feb. 6    Feb. 27
     Ontario Championship:   April 9-11

The team will choose to compete in either a U.S. tournament or the Canadian National open tournament (May 13-16).

The annual fees this season will be in the range of $800-$950. This will cover uniforms, gym rentals, OVA player and tournament fee. In addition, each athlete will be asked to purchase $175 in raffle tickets, with proceeds from the raffle ticket sales going towards participation in a major tournament. This is the only major fund-raising campaign for the club and athletes can recoup the cost by selling their raffle tickets in their community. There may be additional fund-raising required for the Nationals.

The HRVC Recruitment Advisor will be available to work with athletes whose goal is to play at the post-secondary level.

Information About Our 18U Season

Training to Compete: The main objectives for our 18U teams are to optimize fitness preparation, volleyball-specific skills, position-specific skills, and performance. Volleyball skill variations and advanced tactics are developed and volleyball skills will be performed under a variety of competitive conditions during training.
