14U Black storms into 2008-09 season!
On Nov. 15th our 14U Black team traveled to Cambridge and captured Gold at the Predator's pre-season tournament.
During pool play, our 14U Black team met some tough competition. In their first match, with a lot of butterflies, they split sets with the South County Bandits. They then tackled the host Kitchener-Waterloo Predators Purple team and narrowly won both sets - 25-23 and 25-21. This win warmed them up for a close match against last season's #8 team in the province, the Etobicoke Titans. Our U14 Black squad won the first set 25-19, and then lost a nail-biter 24-26.
The Playoffs
The girls met the K-W Predators Black team in the first round, and handled them easily in 2 sets; 25-10 and 25-14. Playing right away, they managed to get past the Stratford Stingers in 2 straight sets. The team enjoyed a brief rest then met their toughest opponent of the day, the number one seed South County Bandits Teal team.
Both teams played some tremndous volleyball and in one set, the ball traveled 8 times over the net in an exciting rally.
In the first set, our Huricanes were victorious with a score of 25-19. The girls narrowly lost the second set 23-25 but in the third and deciding set our 14U Black team came out swinging and won the match 15-9.
As tired as the girls were, they marched onto the court for the gold medal match against the Etobicoke Titans Blue team. It took a total team effort to come out ahead in 2 straight sets.
Congratulations 14U Black! Keep up the hard work and best of luck in your first OVA tornament in December!
