HRVC's 2010/11 Try-out Guide
What do I need for try-outs?
A refillable water bottle with your name on it.
Your signed registration form. To complete your form go to
Your $25 fee - either cash or a cheque made out to "HRVC".
A determined, energetic and competitive attitude.
Make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled try-out to register.
What level of commitment is expected if I make a team?
Practices will begin the week of September 20th. Athletes will practice 2 nights per week for a total of 6 hours. Training includes both circuit training and team training. Our 13U White team will practice twice a week for a total of 5 hours.
We attempt to schedule practices for younger players between 6-8pm and between 8-10pm for the older athletes.
The season runs from September to mid May.
Each team will play in approximately one tournament a month, largely based on the OVA schedule.
The annual fees this season will be in the range of $700-$950. In addition, each athlete will be asked to purchase $175 in raffle tickets, with proceeds from the raffle ticket sales going towards participation in a major tournament.
What will we be looking for at try-outs?
Selections of athletes are based on the following criteria:
1. Performance during game situations
2. Skills demonstrated during the passing, setting, serving & hitting drills
3. Competitive attitude
4. Athletic potential
5. Athletic ability for volleyball
6. Knowledge of the game
